Steven-John Kounoupis, President
Steven-John is passionate about finding any and every way possible to tackle and hopefully one day solve the mental health crisis among students. A major in Cognitive Science at the University of Pennsylvania with minors in Classical Studies and Popular Music Performance, Steven-John hopes to be able to bring the perspectives and resources he’s gained both from his academic studies as well as his work with both individuals and organizations internationally to support Icarus’ goals in improving student health and well-being.
Deniz Gedik
Deniz Gedik is looking to breakdown the stigma and begin the dialogue around mental health issues. He is currently majoring in Biology at the University in Pennsylvania and pursuing a minor in bioethics to develop his understanding of the interplay between medicine and philosophy. Deniz hopes to bring his love for research and passion for mental wellness to help develop solutions that support students locally and internationally.
Seungwon (Lucy) Lee
As a Neuroscience major at the University of Pennsylvania, Lucy has a great passion for tackling mental health issues from various perspectives, not only as a clinical issue but equally a cultural one. She explains that her childhood experience of living in South Korea, where ‘mental health’ is rarely ever a topic of discussion, fuels her determination to fight against the deeply rooted stigma and stereotypes. As an aspiring physician, she believes that ‘there is no health without mental health’ and hopes to architect tangible support programs for the mental health of all youth across the country and the world.
